Kiama Council is demonstrating its zero-tolerance approach to fraud and corruption with the release of its new Fraud and Corruption Control Policy.
The updated policy, which is currently on public exhibition, is designed to protect Council revenue, expenditure, information and assets from any attempt to gain financial or other benefits by deceit.
It includes a Statement of Business Ethics and the policy follows a comprehensive review, informed by the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Council has issued a statement to reinforce that "fraud and corruption are incompatible with our values and threaten our ability to serve our community in a cost effective, efficient and ethical manner".
Staff members receive regular mandatory training to staff on fraud and corruption.
The draft Fraud and Corruption Control Policy and Statement of Business Ethics are on public exhibition until Friday 27 June 2025.
