We’ve been named Top Tourism Town. Now we’re prime-time TV.
This Tuesday night, Kiama steps into the national spotlight as Who Do You Think You Are? uncovers a jaw-dropping family mystery with deep local roots.
The SBS program, airing on 3 June at 7.30pm, traces the ancestry of Alone Australia winner Gina Chick and takes viewers right into the heart of our historic town.
The episode reveals that Gina’s mother, Sue Chick, was the illegitimate daughter of Australian literary icon Charmian Clift.
Filming took place at the Pilot's Cottage Museum in Kiama with writer Nadia Wheatley and at two stunning local landmarks, Bombo Quarry and the Coachhouse at Hartwell House, with none other than the fabulous Dr Tony Gilmour.
Is there anything this man can’t do?
Gina and Sue have turned their extraordinary lives into best-selling books and are now drawing crowds at writers festivals around the country.
But it’s here in Kiama that their story truly finds its roots.
The Pilot's Cottage Museum, which features a moving display on the life of Charmian Clift, is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11.00am to 3.00pm.
Visitors can explore the tragic and powerful legacy of one of Australia’s most revered writers. Entry is by donation – but the experience is priceless.
So who do you think we are?
Apparently, a top tourism town, a literary time capsule, and now, a national television star.
