Kiama Council has closed the Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Depot to the public while staff clean up the site following a sewerage system incident on Friday.

Some wastewater leaked within the site, affecting the weighbridge building and car park.

Council has announced that the incident was isolated and contained to these two hardstand areas and no overflow escaped anywhere else on site.

There is no health risk associated with the leak and it will nof affect Council's cleaning or garbage collection schedules with all household bins to be picked up as normal.

The flooring inside the weighbridge building will be replaced so the weighbridge cannot be used for financial transactions.

Staff have been relocated to other work sites and the facility will remain closed to the public.

New flooring will be laid inside the weighbridge building this week and the facility is expected to re-open next week.

Kiama Council has apologised for any inconvenience caused during the shutdown period.
