The Barmy Army. How unique is this contest?
The atmosphere, the colour, the dress-ups, the noise, the sheer unadulterated beauty of competition in this glorious game of cricket between England and Australia!
And the sledging and the brilliance of individual performance on both sides.
I’m sitting on my couch, it’s evening of the fourth day of the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane.
I’m watching the last few hours, and England are struggling.
Sorry, but I’m excited. I love my Aussie cricket team with a passion.
They end up winning by eight wickets but England’s Barmy Army supporters are singing and clapping and drinking beer and partying in the stands, and the green and gold supporters are giving it right back.
Oh the joy of it!
If you ever get the chance, if it’s even remotely possible for you, watch an Ashes series.
Or even a game. The high is brilliant. It should be illegal.
