I’m writing in response to concerns about the Mercure hotel expansion.

I spend a lot of time in Gerringong. I fully support the responsible expansion of the Mercure hotel as it will be bring a much needed injection of visitors, vibrancy and jobs.

I’m stunned that with such beautiful surrounds many Gerringong venues don’t have the foot traffic to justify serving food after 8.30pm and the main strip in Gerringong is a ghost town at night even in summer.

The “not in my backyard” argument of some residents is thankfully not being accepted by councils and is so common the movie Footloose immortalised them. 

Bring on a more vibrant nighttime economy in Gerringong! There is no point being beautiful but boring.
