Kiama Council has closed Surf Beach on Tuesday afternoon due to a shark sighting in the area.

Lifeguards made the decision to close off the beach to ensure the safety of swimmers and the community.

Beachgoers are urged to stay safe, and heed warnings from lifeguards on duty.

The area is being monitored and Council has advised that the beach will be open again once it is safe to do so.

Kiama's coastline is busier than usual this week after school holidays kicked off last Saturday.
