Think Jamberoo is just a sleepy village?
Think again.
On Friday, 2 May at 5pm, history and hilarity collide at the Jamberoo Pub as author Tony Gilmour launches his brand new book Rascals & Respectables, a rollicking ride through the drinking dens of Jamberoo, Kiama and Gerringong.
With over 90 historic photos and 286 pages of scandal, celebration and colourful characters, the book offers a window into a wilder past.
From drinkers arriving by lawnmower to bulls paraded through hotel corridors, Tony’s meticulous research, and cheerful pub-crawling on your behalf, brings our region’s hospitality history to life.
This isn’t your average history talk.
Expect outrageous stories, like the counting horse that earned its owner free beers, and the lady who mistook a cow portrait critique for a personal insult.
And yes, Sunday drinking bans in Kiama once made Jamberoo the place to be, and not so much to drive home from.
All proceeds from book sales, $29.90, go to the Kiama Historical Society.
Join us for a drink, a laugh, and a celebration of our slightly less respectable past.
