Join author Vesna Cvjetićanin at Kiama Library on Tuesday for an insightful discussion about her book, An Unexpected Life, which presents the remarkable journeys of 12 migrant women (including Vesna's own story) who embarked on a courageous path to Australia as adults, each confronting formidable challenges along the way.

These 12 inspiring women came from all over the world - Romania, Afghanistan, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Peru, North Macedonia, Chile, Bosnia, Malaysia and South Africa.

Despite often facing discrimination, economic hardship, and personal struggles, they each emerged triumphant, proving that, with unwavering resolve, anything is possible.

The stories in her book are unique, inspiring, and gently and lovingly told.

An Unexpected Life is a must-read to appreciate the language barriers and cultural challenges experienced by immigrants, as well as the unexpected traumas and enjoyments encountered along the way.

It has has been awarded the 2025 ACT Literary Award in the Non-Fiction category.

Vesna said she was "very pleased to have received it".

Through resilience and determination, these women not only overcame adversity but thrived against the odds - an invaluable reminder that, amidst life’s uncertainties, unexpected opportunities for growth and fulfilment await.
