Driver arrested twice on same day in Jamberoo on high-range drink-driving charges

A 67-year-old man has been refused bail after he was allegedly caught drink-driving with an alcohol reading seven times the legal limit and then arrested again later in the day.

Police were notified about 1.25pm on Sunday of a damaged SUV being driven in Jamberoo.

A short time later, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Highway Patrol Command located the vehicle in a car park at Kevin Walsh Oval.

Police subjected the 67-year-old driver to a roadside breath test, where he allegedly returned a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.351.

The man was charged with high-range PCA, and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended. The man was released on conditional bail.

About 8pm the same day, Lake Illawarra Police were contacted by a member of the public reporting concerns about the driver of an SUV who was trying a three-point turn in the car park at Kevin Walsh Oval.

Officers arrived and found the same 67-year-old man allegedly behind the wheel of the SUV.

He was breath tested, allegedly returning a positive reading.

After he was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station for a second time, he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.267.

He was charged with another charge of high-range PCA, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail.
