Launch of new history of Kiama’s hotels

Sat 22 March 2025, 2.00pm - 3.30pm

Kiama Library Auditorium, 7 Railway Parade, Kiama

Published by Kiama Historical Society, Dr Tony Gilmour’s new book Rascals and Respectables tells the thrilling tale of hotels in Kiama, Jamberoo and Gerringong.

Although seen as a male dominated business, women played a vital role running and frequenting local hotels. Not content to be confined to ‘Ladies lounges’, the Daily Telegraph was shocked in 1943 to find Kiama women sitting alongside men at the public bar.

The book will be officially launched by Gareth Ward MP, followed by Tony discussing the rise (and demise) of local hotels from the 1830s to the present day. After a Q&A, tea and cake will be served.

Entry $3 for Kiama Historical Society members, $5 Non-Members.
